Billie Jean King has become the first female to own a bowling team. King is the owner of the New York City WTT KingPins. King might be the first woman to own a Professional Bowlers Association's inaugural PBA League team, but she isn't the only famous owner. Other famous owners include Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers, Jerome Bettis formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former NFL star Terrell Owens.
League play begins this month. King's team will include PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber, Tommy Jones and Scott Norton. Jones has 13 tour wins and Norton recently won the PBA Chameleon Championship in Las Vegas.
The eight-team league will make its debut Jan. 19 at Detroit's Thunderbowl Lanes. ESPN will televise five weeks of league competition beginning Jan. 27 and broadcast the Elias Cup finals on April 7.
