Bowling For Dollars

It's been a long time since the television show "Bowling for Dollars" last aired, but it is making a comeback. Even though it has been on since the 1970's the hope is that what was a popular show then will be a popular show now. If you're a Bowling for Dollars fan and have any time to spare this weekend you're in for a real treat. Bowling for Dollarw has made the taping open to the public.

So for all the fans in the Detroit area the first taping of the updated “Bowling for Dollars” will start at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, the original home of the beloved local game show.

There will be a meet-and-greet lunch at noon before the taping, which is also open to fans.

“Bowling for Dollars” was an amazing ratings success in the 1970s. Iconic host Bob Allison will be back in his old job in the new version, which debuts at 7 p.m. June 16 on WADL-TV.

"We are hoping that what was popular 40 years ago is still popular today. Viewing trends change and while there are no guarantees, I am counting on the popularity of ‘Bowling For Dollars’ to transcend time,” said WADL CEO Kevin Adell in a message to the Free Press. “However, the clothing we were wearing, things like short pants and Nehru jackets would look pretty outdated and silly today.”

Fortunately, a vintage bowling shirt looks timeless. Hopefully this will be another reason to people out on the lanes and if they call us up to bowl for dollars this Saturday we'll be ready!
