Best Ball For Novice Players

I thought I was getting a reactive resin bowl, but I found out that this urethane bowl is best for me since I just started seriously bowling earlier this year. This ball knocks down more pins than the roto grip ball even when you don't hit the center pin. I'm sometimes surprise how many pins fall when I know I didn't throw a perfect ball. If you're still perfecting your game, this is the ball for you.

Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane, Purple Pin Edition: The best got just better!!!

Hammer Purple Pearl Urethane, purple pin edition! The gold standard for urethane bowling balls is back with the purple pin edition, featuring the same classic weight block and coverstock that has become a fan favorite over the years. I drilled this one 50 x 3 ¾ “ x 25, mimicking one of my favorite layouts on my green pin purple pearl urethane. The Purple Pearl Urethane Hammer, purple pin, rolls and hits just like its predecessor, with that consistent urethane ball motion that is reliable time after time. This has been my “go to” ball on PBA Viper league this season. If you do not have one of these, especially if you bowl on a lot of sport shots like I do, you are giving away pins to the competition. Check out my two shot quick hit video below and see for yourself:

Legendary

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? The Purple Hammer is one of the best urethane balls of all time. Very smooth and very controllable on every single pattern I have thrown it on. I will admit that I wasn’t a big fan of urethane prior to punching up this ball, but once I did, I needed three more. It won’t over react and it won’t under react. This ball lets the performance do the talking and I would say all the Trophies, Titles, and thousands of dollars this ball has racked up should be enough to get it in your bag.

A motion I was missing!

Stats: PAP 4 over ¾ up, 14.5 mph, 18 tilt, 275 revs. The Hammer Purple Urethane is designed for light to medium oil conditions and short patterns. This is my first urethane ball and I was not sure what to expect, but I have had the opportunity to use it a few times now and appreciate the different motion I get from it. Being an average rev player, I cannot move too far left with it, but when the shot allows for a more direct approach, you cannot beat this ball. I think lower rev players may find urethane less useful, but it could have its place on really dry lanes or with added surface. This ball will be in my tournament bag going forward.

This ball is something special

Admittedly, I haven’t been able to throw a lot of urethane. Even though I am left-handed, my speed and rev rate doesn’t seem to typically match up to where urethane can be in play for me. This has changed, given the Purple Hammer. For me, this ball has the shape of a urethane ball but the look and power of a reactive resin ball.

This ball will see a lot of action when the patterns are shorter – probably nothing longer than 38’ – and the volume is medium to heavy. This will help me get the ball down the lane, still retain some energy, and make a predictable move to the pocket.

Recently, I competed in a PBA Regional on the Marshall Holman Pattern (38’), and I was able to play around the first arrow and get the ball to the pocket. The ball didn’t overreact, and the only time I had trouble with it was when I threw it through the breakpoint.

This ball will be in my bag when traveling to tournaments and the upcoming league season when the lanes get a little over/under, and I’m looking for a piece to help me manage the pocket but still score.

If you are a tournament bowler, you must have the Purple Hammer in your bag. There truly is something special about it.

This Ball Will Help Me For The Medium To Low Oil Volume Patterns And Allows Me To Stay To The Right And Straighter Angles To The Pocket! The Purple Ball is BACK!!!! This ball has been my go to on short sport patterns! This has allowed me to control my angles and find the pocket! It is about 2-3 boards stronger than the original in my opinion! If you are the tournament bowler, this is a must have in your bag!

It’s back!!

The best modern day urethane ball is back! I used a 60 x 4 x 10 layout on the ball, which put the pin above my ring finger. I have used it on our local house shot and on the chameleon oil pattern and it has the same shape as the original. The only difference I’ve noticed is that it picks up a little sooner and is about 2-3 boards stronger. This ball is a must have for any bowler!

Best Urethane Ball Ever

The Purple Hammer is the standard by which all other urethane balls are judged and this new version only proves that is correct. I’m not a guy that throws urethane on house shots so this is really only for shorter sport patterns for me, but it is good. Probably 3 or 4 boards more hook than the original Purple but this hits harder than urethane has for me, and it has still got that great controllable urethane shape that lets you control the pocket without overreacting which is valuable on tougher patterns. I’m excited to throw it on even shorter patterns soon but I got the chance to test it and reviewed in on the PBA Don Carter 39 ft pattern and it looked great from multiple angles. I could play up the outside but also moved in a little bit and still looked good where previous urethane would quit on me. It has the smooth shape of urethane but continues through pins more like reactive does, so not as many flat 10 pins that come with urethane normally for me. Expect to see this on TV a ton.

Urethane Allstar

A lot has already been said for the Purple Hammer and I can confirm all of the hype. This ball is a monster of the urethane ball. The Purple Hammer is very early and still has more continuation on the backend to help get out those corners. There is a lot of surface on this ball so it will need a few games on it to help get it downlane a bit further. Once that happens, the Purple Hammer is great for your shorter patterns but can also be effective on medium patterns with the amount of motion it can give you. If you find a time where urethane is in play, you'll really want this in your bag to keep up with the crowd

PURPLE!!!

By far the best urethane ever produced. The Purple Urethane is absolutely unique. 4.5X50. Thrown on oil and burned up shots. It just stays stable. Early and smooth arch and slices through the pins. Deflection is very low. Never have to worry about it not hooking or hooking to much. Very predictable. Do not wait or sleep on this one. Add it to the arsenal. You’ll be happy you did.

Slightly stronger

The new purple hammer is no different really to the old purple hammer. Has the same early roll with the slight continuation downlane that makes the purple hammer so unique. My new purple hammer started out about 3 to 5 stronger after a few games on it this purple has slightly more downlane motion which is not a bad thing for urethane. Definitely don't miss out on this piece and if you a tournament player this is a must have.

The Real Purple Ball

I drilled THE new Purple Hammer with a 55x4x35 drill. Everyone wants to know what it does compared to the OG Purple, right? Well, this ball is a little stronger, both as it reads the lane, and off the spot. I’ve throw it on house shots and on a shorter pattern for a tournament, and the ball is just best urethane ball on the market. It hits so hard, it’s so versatile, and will look great in the hand of all different types of bowlers.

Hammer has brought back the king of Urethane bowling balls. I threw the new Purple right along side with the old Purple Hammer and they are extremely close. Question:

compare purple hammer to storm fast pitch

5/30/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Purple Hammer has a pearl urethane and the Fast Pitch has a solid urethane so the Fast Pitch will read a little earlier because of this. Also, the Fast Pitch is a 1000 grit finish which is duller than the 2000 grit finish on the Purple Hammer. Lastly, the weight block on the Fast Pitch reads just a little earlier but it gives a bigger flare potential than the weight block on the Purple Hammer. So if you need one for really light oil to drier then the Purple Hammer may be a better option and if you need one for medium to light oil that doesn't have a high hook then the Fast Pitch may be a good option.

Question:

I AM A LOW REV player and play down and in will this ball help me

7/12/2021 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

This ball does not sound like it would be a very good match. This ball is going to have a smoother arcing hook reaction on lighter oil conditions and with a low rev rate it will not have much hook at all. If you want a down and in shot you may look at a Pearl Reactive coverstock with a polished finish to give you that down and in shape. Also, if you have a low rev rate then you can adjust for the recommended lane conditions by picking a ball that is a little more aggressive. For instance the Hammer Web Pearl would normally be rated in medium oil but if you have a lower rev rate you could probably use this in medium and some lighter oil conditions.

Question:

Is the purple pearl like the purple tank

9/8/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

In some ways it would be very similar. The Hammer Purple Pearl was a urethane to give you a smoother more predictable read on the lanes. They are both a great option in lighter oil conditions but the Hammer will give you slightly more length and because of this it works a little better in less oil than the Purple Tank which could go up to some medium conditions.

Question:

Compare the new purple urethane to the raw black

10/27/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Hammer breaks down the performance by having the FCC rating to show you the strength of the balls finish, core, and coverstock. The FCC rating on the Purple Pearl is Total- 14.5, Finish- 9, Core- 2, Cover- 3.5 and the FCC on the Raw Black is Total-27.75, Finish-8.5, Core-5.25, Cover-9. So the Purple Pearl Urethane is designed to be weaker over all in all ways and this helps it to have a very easy and controllable reaction that is also easy to read.

Question:

Which is better for house shot the Purple Hammer or the Venom shock?

1/24/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Both bowling balls are recommended for use in medium to lighter conditions but the reactions are much different. The Purple Hammer is designed to be a much smoother and milder hook reaction making it an easy to read bowling ball. The Venom Shock will give you more hook potential if you are looking for a stronger hook for more entry angle.
