One of the best bowling balls ever made.
In my opinion, one of if not the best bowling ball ever made. I just recently bought my second Phaze II, opting for a 15 pounder and a bit longer layout. My older one is 16 pounds and drilled a bit stronger. But since I got my Gem for my strong ball needs, I may get the 16lb redrilled pin down for even later burn. I think the slight difference in RG from the lighter/smaller core gives it much better reaction down the lane from the heavier ball.
This thing is just a beast. It's extremely versatile and can be used for almost any condition you might encounter. Just put surface on or take it off depending on what you're looking at. My least favorite, use for it was on the long, heavy oil patterns, like bear or shark, for example. But for those with limited options, one could throw 1000 grit on it and it and be salvageable. For me, I got my Gem and my Reality for those conditions, but even then, the Phaze II is a great transition ball when your weaker balls still won't shape the way you want.
In my opinion, everybody should have at least one Phaze II in their arsenal. You really can't go wrong.

Incredibly Reliable
I'm a fairly novice bowler. I've only been bowling competitively for about a year and a half now, and my average was a measly 131. The Phase II is my third strike ball that I've owned, and I primarily bought it because I was told my other two (the Jackal Ghost and Rhino) were too heavy for me to use effectively by people who watched me bowl. At first, I was pretty disappointed. In order to get the ball to react in heavy oil, I had to really muscle it--shoving my arm down the alley and throwing my hand around the ball to get any kind of rotation that would lead to a hook. And once the oil burned up, I was flying right past the headpin. Obviously, this was not the way to go. After a little guidance from some other bowlers, I decided to stop muscling my swing, stop trying to throw my hand around the ball on release, and just let the Phase II come off my hand. The instant I began doing that, my pincounts went through the roof. I was amazed at how little effort it took to release the Phase II, only to have it slice beautifully into the pocket. My Ghost and Rhino were a bit less reliable using the same technique. When I let the Phase II do all the heavy lifting, I went from scoring 120-140 every game to routinely rising above 200. I even came within three frames of getting a 300 last week. And that's, again, with a 131 league average.
I'm extremely satisfied with this ball. If you release it smoothly and gently, it'll do exactly what you predict it will the vast majority of the time.

Bought this ball from this site a few weeks ago. In my 2nd league session with this ball I rolled my first ever 300 in league! I've already owned this ball before but needed a replacement as mine was destroyed (huge gash taken out of it) by a lane machine over a year ago. I've used the phaze 2 on just about every lane condition you can think of. Always the first ball out of my bag. Stays in play a long time for me even though it is a pretty strong ball. This is a can't miss ball reaction for the majority of bowlers.

The hype is real
This ball lives up to the hype and I was very skeptical at first. Most pros review this ball and say its good but not everyone is a pro, as a intermediate player I can tell you that this ball is amazing and smells amazing. Very consistent reaction which is the Phaze II's biggest strong point. Once you find the break point and are consistent with your release and speed this ball delivers strikes. Requires heavy to medium oil, good choice for a lead off ball during league play. Another thing I like about the Phaze II is that it will let you know once the lanes are breaking down, it's easy to read.

I loved this ball so much, I purchased a second one.
Love this ball, I purchased this ball back in September 2019 and series out I subbed on a league and had a 600 plus series. The next day in my doubles league, I threw another 600 plus series with a high in the 260's. I loved the ball so much that I got another one and had it drilled with the layout that I've used since 1997. I threw it in league the following week and first game out of the box was a game in the 240's. This ball is flat out amazing,! My arsenal consists of (2) Phase 2's, a Physix, Hammer Pink Blackwidow, Pitch Black, and Hammer Blackwidow spare ball and suffice to say, I use my Phase 2's about 75% of the time. If you have a chance to get one, get this ball it's a must have.

Let me start this off by saying that I love storm I love their products however the storm phase 2 is an absolute overrated overpriced piece of garbage it is not worth your time it is not something for good one handed bowlers it's just a weak ball all around. I average 210 and I hook the ball very well. I got it drilled to hook a little bit later down lane and I tried to hook the ball 2 handed to get as much hook as possible and it just comes out weak. I've seen other 2 handers use this ball to success but this ball is no bueno.

The difference between the Phaze and Phaze II is the coverstock and finish. The Phaze II is a solid coverstock with a 3000 Abralon finish to help get the Phaze II reading in the midlane with a strong smooth hook reaction. The Phaze is a pearl cover with a polished finish to get it more length with a sharper backed hook. Because the Phaze II reads well in the midlane it helps the Phaze II read heavier oil than the Phaze also.

The Storm Lock is the higher performance ball so it would cover more boards. The Phaze II would read the lanes just a little earlier than the Lock which helps it start hooking just a little earlier but it would still be just under the overall hook that the Lock has. You may could use this behind the Lock if the Lock is just barely too aggressive but you would not be able to use this for very long before you would have to change again to something that was a little weaker because it is just under the Lock in performance.

There are a lot of variables to consider on this. If you have a slower ball speed and a lower rev rate then you could possibly still use this ball. If you have a slower ball speed and an average or higher rev rate then you could still like this ball but you may have to use it more in heavy oil only. A slower ball speed may be something under 13mph.

The Phaze II and Hammer Effect are both designed to work in medium to heavy oil conditions. The Phaze II will read earlier on the lanes for a smoother arcing hook while the Effect will go longer and have a more angular backend hook. I would not necessarily say the Effect works below the Phaze II however. I think they will just give you a different look on similar lane conditions. So if you are bowling in leagues one night and a lot of people are using a similar solid cover ball with duller finish to help their ball read earlier and have an arcing hook, you may want to change from the Phaze II to the Effect which will allow you to find another line and play later on the lanes so your Phaze II is not having to compete in a part of the lane that will likely burn up quicker due to more bowlers using similar equipment.

The weight block in the Phaze 2 is the same weight block in all of the other Phazes ( Velocity ). The only difference is the coverstocks and the finish. The solid coverstock and 3000 grit finish help this ball work well up to heavier conditions without paying the premium price of a higher performance ball so this is a great value option for people looking for a strong ball that handles fresh, heavy oil.

In short the answer is no. As you drop in weight the ball will not carry as well as a heavier weight ball. However, because this ball has a good hook potential, it can create a good entry angle to the pocket and this will make the drop off in weight less significant because you are still going to get a good angle into the pocket. So while the 14lb may not hit or carry quite as well as a 15lb or 16lb ball, it still packs a lot of punch and is not as noticeable of a drop off as a ball that has less hook and less entry angle to the pocket.

Our only option at this time for the custom drilling option is for if you can provide us with your measurements either from a drill sheet you had on a previous ball or from a proshop who has measured and given you the measurements in person. If you do not already have the measurements, it would be best to get the ball without our drilling and take this to be custom fit by a local proshop.
